Voicebot, voicemail bot or outbound bot: which one do you need?

Voicemail bot, voicebot or outbound bot? The first catches missed calls (€79/mo), the second answers live 24/7 (€249) and the third makes the calls (€179).

What is the difference between a voicebot, a voicemail bot and an outbound bot?

A voicemail bot catches missed calls with a WhatsApp message, a voicebot answers the call live itself, and an outbound bot does the calling for you. At Surge Agent they cost €79, €249 and €179 per month respectively. Together they cover incoming, missed and outgoing phone traffic.

So these aren't three versions of the same product, but three different gaps in your day. The call you miss while you're in the crawl space. The call you do answer, but which drags you off the roof. And the call you should be making (chasing last week's quote) that never actually happens. What the three do together is on the voice page.

How to choose in one minute

  • Missing callers and want something sorted today? Voicemail bot, €79 per month, no setup.
  • Phone ringing all day and nobody free to answer? Voicebot.
  • Quotes and maintenance jobs sitting untouched? Outbound bot.
  • Lock the whole thing down? Voicemail bot and voicebot together, or the bundle.

When do you choose a voicemail bot?

The voicemail bot is the cheapest way to never lose a call again. If you can't pick up, the caller automatically gets a WhatsApp within a minute: "We saw your call. Urgent? Feel free to send a photo." Cost: €79 per month, no setup, live this week.

On top of that you get modern voicemail. If someone does leave a message, you don't get an audio file to listen back to "in a bit", but a transcript with a summary in your WhatsApp. Two lines tell you whether it's urgent, while you're still on the job.

What makes this such a good entry point isn't the technology but the threshold: no setup fee, no calendar integration, no new phone number. We switch on a forward and it runs. In practice this is the product businesses start with to find out whether this kind of automation suits them at all.

When do you need a voicebot (AI receptionist)?

As soon as missed calls start costing revenue. The voicebot answers live, handles questions about rates and service area, recognises emergencies such as a leak or heating failure and transfers straight to the on-call engineer. It books appointments in your calendar and takes notes on every call. €250 setup, €249 per month including 300 call minutes.

The maths is usually quick: an emergency job in the installation trade runs from €300 to €800. One emergency a month that does not go to your competitor pays the subscription back three times over. After the bundle it's €0.35 per minute.

Doesn't a voicebot sound like a robot?

Dutch voice AI matured in 2026: under 5% word errors and response times below 600 milliseconds. The voice sounds natural and the conversation flows without those telltale pauses. What callers mostly notice is that they don't hit voicemail but get helped immediately. That's what sticks, not whether it was a human.

Does it answer every call, or only when I can't?

Your choice. Most businesses start with "overflow": the bot answers when nobody picks up within a few seconds, and outside working hours. If you like it, you let it answer everything and your team works uninterrupted. You define the emergency rules upfront: what counts as urgent, who is on call, and when.

What does an outbound bot actually do?

An outbound bot calls out under your company name: chasing quotes, announcing maintenance visits, confirming appointments and requesting reviews. It only calls people who are already customers or applicants; we deliberately don't do cold sales calls. €250 setup and €179 per month, with call minutes from the same bundle as the voicebot.

Think of it as the phone version of the follow-up agent. What that one does over WhatsApp and email, the outbound bot does in a real conversation: "Good afternoon, you received a quote from us last week. Shall I book you in?" For bigger jobs a call works markedly better than a message, it just never happens in practice. How the written version works is in automatic quote follow-up.

That we skip cold outreach isn't only a matter of taste. Since 1 July 2021 you may no longer call consumers or small businesses in the Netherlands with an unsolicited offer: that requires explicit prior consent, and the ACM enforces it. Calling back someone who requested a quote from you, confirming an appointment or announcing a maintenance visit isn't a sales call but service on a live enquiry. Which is exactly why the outbound bot only calls your own applicants and customers. Belgian (+32) numbers work fine, by the way: our service area is the Netherlands and Flanders, no separate setup or extra cost.

What does voice AI cost per month?

Voice AI at Surge Agent costs €0 to €250 one-off setup and €79 to €249 per month, excluding VAT. That rent includes everything: AI usage, monitoring, messaging costs, support and continuous optimisation. All three voice products together come to €500 setup and €507 per month. Prices updated: July 2026.

| Product | Setup | Per month | | --- | --- | --- | | Voicemail bot: the missed-call safety net | €0 | €79 | | Outbound bot: makes the calls for you | €250 | €179 | | Voicebot (AI receptionist): reachable 24/7 | €250 | €249 incl. 300 min. | | Complete Setup: voice, agents and website | €995 | €595 |

One thing to note on that last row: the bundle contains the voicebot and the voicemail bot, together with the three standard agents and the conversion website. The outbound bot is added separately. How our prices compare to the rest of the market is set out in what an AI receptionist costs; you can run the numbers yourself on the pricing page.

How fast is a voicebot live?

The voicemail bot is live within a few days; the voicebot and outbound bot usually take one to two weeks, because we connect them to your calendar, your number and your emergency rules. You install nothing yourself: we build, connect and manage everything remotely, then improve the bot every month after that.

That last step is where the difference sits. In the call logs we review with customers each month, the same five questions surface every time: what does a call-out cost, do you cover my area, how fast can you come, do you take small jobs, and is there a warranty. Every month you run, those answers get sharper and the bot has to transfer less often.

Not sure which of the three fits you? In a free 30 to 45 minute AI workflow scan we look at your call traffic together: how many you miss, when, and what that likely costs you. No obligation, and you get direct advice on which voice products suit the way you work.
